Fluorescent painting on wall, UV light, sounds from the space

dis-cover is an installation that uses ultraviolet light and fluorescent paint. Inside a dark room, one is greeted by strange sounds and a faint ultraviolet light that illuminates a wall. The eye cannot immediately grasp the whole, but as it gets used to the half-light situation, it begins to outline the contours of the figure that looms. A large brain materialises. In this action, light becomes the element of discovery of reality. Ciracì explores the perceptive capacity of the luminous medium that allows reality to materialise. The brain is never visualised as a whole in the installation, but is perceived as such thanks to our imaginative and perceptive brain processes, which recognise it as a whole. Despite much scientific research, we have not yet come to know the brain as a whole, which is why only a portion is shown.

In dis-cover, the artist creates a relationship between the brain and the universe; the soundtrack uses tracks from the Voyager programme (NASA), and brings back space sounds, faint cosmic wails that are juxtaposed with an impression of neuronal electrical impulses. Sarah Ciracì's work focuses on the similarities between galaxies and neurons, understanding both 'circuits' as evolving and expanding patterns.
